How To Unload Your Unwanted Gift Cards For Money

Gift cards are a popular gift item during the Christmas season. For the most part, they're great, especially if it's for one of your favorite retailers. But what if you received gift cards for retailers you have no interest in? What are you supposed to do? Instead of re-gifting or letting the cards expire in your wallet, there's another option that can leave you with some cash in your hand. You always have the choice of selling your gift cards for less than the face value of the card and there are several ways to do this. Here's how to unload your unwanted gift cards for money:

1. Use a gift card website

- Websites like will allow you to sell your card to them for resale. The downside to using sites like this is that you won't get the full amount that they sell the card for, as they also have to make a profit. The upside is that it's super easy and can turn over your gift cards on the same day.

2. Use the Facebook marketplace

- In most areas, there are buy & sell groups on Facebook for locals. Find your local group and post your gift card for less than the face value. You will likely get many bites and sell the card fairly quickly.

3. Local Classifieds

- Websites like Craigslist can help you unload your unwanted gift cards. Simply post an ad detailing what your card is worth and how much you’re selling it for and you should be able to unload it pretty fast.

Exchanging your gift cards is another way to get rid of the cards you don’t want to gain the cards you do. You can do this the same way you would sell your cards, by using, posting on Facebook buy & sell groups or posting on Craigslist.

Whichever method you choose, you’re going to end up with something you want instead of a gift card you don't.
