The Top Five Vacation Destinations In Canada

Canada Destinations

We’re lucky we live in the most beautiful place on Earth, aren’t we? I mean, there aren’t many places to live in Canada where we’re not close to some sort of breathtaking view. We’ve got rainforests and a desert, mountains and beaches, wilderness and countless lakes. There is no shortage of things to see and do in this great country of ours. What are the most popular places to visit, though? Can you guess? In a country so huge, it’s hard to narrow it down to just five, isn’t it?

Well, according to TripAdvisor, BC and Quebec are the winners! With two destinations each in the top five, it seems these two provinces boast the most tourism. Let’s take a look at all five though.

5. The fifth most popular place to visit in Canada is Victoria, British Columbia. While locals joke that it is the city of the newly wed or the nearly dead, for visitors, it seems to have a lot more to offer. Its gorgeous waterfront, lorded over by the chiseled beauty of the parliament buildings, almost makes Victoria look like a European destination. With lots of things to do and see within walking distance from each other, it makes the city super tourist-friendly. Great food, lots of pubs, tons of museums and theatres and historic spots, all make Victoria a delightful Canadian destination.

4. Toronto, Ontario. Yes, old T-dot made it to the list. It’s no wonder why, though, because Toronto has an amazing nightlife and is bursting at the seams with culture from all over the world. There is probably not a single sort of cuisine you cannot find in Toronto. If you’re a sports fan, you can check out the Raptors or the Blue Jays or the Leafs. If you’re a music fan, there are always shows happening in town, plus, it’s never uncool to go take a selfie in front of MuchMusic headquarters. You can sit in on a live television recording in the studio audience of your favourite show or look out over all of Toronto from the CN tower. There are historic spots to see, parks to enjoy, museums to visit. You could probably stay in Toronto for a year and still not do every fun thing there is to do there.

3. Montreal, Quebec. This is at the top of my list of places to visit in Canada, but that’s mostly because I love food. If you’re like me, and you’re a foodie traveller, Montreal is a great destination. Some of the best food in the country comes from here, or so I’m told, and it’s the birthplace of some of our most identified Canadian dishes and ingredients. I should probably get myself a shirt that says, “Will travel for poutine.” But I digress, artery clogging gravy is not the only reason to travel to Montreal. It’s also one of the most beautiful cities in North America. It’s architecture and culture and proximity to natural beauty all make Montreal a great Canadian place to visit.

2. Quebec City, Quebec. My Dad used to work as a porter on VIA rail, and would travel from coast to coast. He promised me that Quebec City was the most visually stunning city he’d ever seen, and my Dad is a well-travelled guy. I’ve never been there myself but all it takes is a quick Google image search for Quebec City to see my Dad was right. It’s absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to see it in person one day.

1. Vancouver, British Columbia. As a world traveller, I can attest, this is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It has everything, from mountains and beaches, to parks and nightlife. Another of the world’s most diverse cities, Vancouver offers food from every corner of the globe and a cultural mosaic so rich and vast it’s hard to see where it ends. There’s so much to do and see in my hometown that you could spend a lifetime there and still discover something new every day.

There they are: the top five vacation destinations in Canada. I thought for sure Niagara Falls would make the list, but I was wrong. Each and every one of these cities on this list deserves to be here, though, because there just aren’t many places in Canada not worth visiting. I dunno about you guys, but I sure am glad to be Canadian.

What Canadian spots do you think should be on this list? Let us know in the comments and enjoy your weekend!
