Five Weekend Activities That Won’t Break The Bank

softball weekend activities

Whether you’re off to see Suicide Squad, grab a plate of salmon sashimi, or spend the day at an amusement park, it kinda seems like everything is way overpriced these days, doesn’t it? I mean, you can’t even stroll down the street for an ice cream cone for the family without a twenty. It can be really discouraging, but fret not, for we are Canadians and Canadians know how to have fun without so much as a loonie. Here are five weekend activities that won’t break the bank:

1. Enjoying Canada’s world-class outdoors

You are a Canadian, and that means you have a few things in your DNA. Aside from a love of beer and an obsessive compulsion to apologize, deep down somewhere inside you, there lies a love of hiking, jumping in pristine glacier lakes or making s’mores around a bonfire on the beach. Awaken that sleeping gene, and enjoy what people travel for from all corners of the world.

2. Volunteer

Sure, Canada’s Wonderland is fun, but you don’t come home with a sense of fulfillment, like you do after handing out food at the foodbank. The greatest part about it is that feeding your soul doesn’t cost a dime.

3. Check your town calendar

You’d be surprised how many free events there are happening every weekend across Canada. There are free concerts, and farmer’s markets lined with samples to enjoy. There are art shows and book readings at libraries and festivals for kids, complete with bouncy castles. Many towns and cities post their calendar online, so it should be fairly easy to find events in your area.

4. Join a beer league!

There is no better way to fight the growth of that true North Canadian beer gut, than by playing softball while you knock ‘em back! Burn the calories just as fast as you take ‘em in, and have fun with a whole load of new friends for free.

5. Pokemon Go

You don’t have to spend a cent to take part in the biggest fad of the summer, plus you have the added bonus of burning a few calories while doing it. So, get off your butt and go catch yourself a Snorlax!

What are some of the free things you do on weekends? Let us know in the comments!
