6 Ways Spring And Summer Can Save You Money

The warm air is finally here! Birds greet us in the morning, the sun is always shining and everything seems to be green and blooming. It’s the best time of year, if you ask me and it’s partly because it means there are lots of things that can save you money. Indeed, there is a season for saving money, too. It would seem the old line from Pete Seeger’s classic, “Turn, Turn, Turn” is true, to everything, there is a season.

So, how can the season save you money? Let us count the ways:

1. Hang your clothes out to dry and save on your electric bill

Not only will your clothes smell fresher and have all the wrinkles blown away with the wind, but you’ll save a bit of cash not having to run your dryer. Bonus: your yard gets to look like the opening scene from some Oscar-nominated coming of age film set in the summer of 1959.

2. Turn the heat off

It’s finally warm enough to turn off that loud heat source that only seems to succeed in drying out our skin and our noses. Just try not to replace it with air conditioning and you’re going to save a bundle on your electric bill! Use fans, light clothing, and water to keep yourself cool and save your money.

3. More fruits and veggies in season

Fruits and veggies are always cheaper choices for meals, especially when they’re in season. Spring and summer and even early fall mean an abundance of produce is in season. Take advantage of your local produce and save money on every meal.

4. Garage sales

Yard sale season is in full swing and that means more money in your pocket two ways. 1. You can save money on the things you might need by looking for them at yard sales and 2. You can hold your own garage sale and pocket a few bucks yourself!

5. Ride your bike

Now that all the snow has melted and the weather is beautiful enough, you can ride your bike to work every day and that’s going to save you a mint. Less gas being burned is a good thing for everyone and your wallet.

6. Grow your own food

Plant all your favourite fruits and vegetable in your garden and take advantage of the warmer, longer, sunnier days. Nothing tastes as good as homegrown produce does, especially when we know it was virtually free. Even if you don’t have much of a green thumb, there are foolproof plants out there that will shave a few bucks off your grocery bill every month.

Making use of all of these spring and summer-specific methods for saving money could put a couple hundred extra bucks in your bank each month. Those are bucks you can pay down debt with, start an emergency fund with, or just save for a rainy day. The season of saving is upon us, so make sure you’re taking advantage!

What else can you think of that can save you money on in the spring and summer? Let us know in the comments!
