4 Alternatives To The Now-Extinct Chase Amazon Visa

Chase Amazon Visa

Were you an Amazon Visa holder? The news of accounts closing was a major disappointment for many cardholders. However, we want to explore four alternatives to the now-extinct Chase Amazon Visa.

The Amazon Visa from Chase was one of the most loved cards by its users. The reasons for this are twofold:

1. The waived foreign transaction fee

- This credit card perk was a favorite amongst Canadians who frequently traveled or tended to make a lot of transactions online with foreign currency.

2. The Cashback rewards

- the Amazon Chase Visa offers 1% cash back on all purchases, and 2% cash back on purchases made at Amazon.ca

These two perks made this credit card very popular in Canada. It's no wonder so many Chase Amazon Visa cardholders are so disappointed by this news.

There is good news, though. The Chase Amazon Visa was not the only card that offered these perks. There are other cards in Canada that offer zero foreign transaction fees and great cashback opportunities. If you're one of the Amazon Visa cardholders upset that your account would be closing, consider the following alternatives:

1. The Home Trust Preferred Visa

- For those of you who are fans of zero foreign transaction fees, this is the best alternative. The Home Trust Preferred Visa also offers a waived foreign transaction fee and 1% cash back on all purchases just like the Amazon Chase Visa. Other perks from this card are free Roadside Assist membership, guaranteed hotel reservations, and free purchase and auto rental insurance. This card is by far the most similar to the Amazon Chase Visa.

2. BMO Cashback Mastercard

- While this card does not have the waived foreign transaction fees, it does offer 4% cashback on all purchases within your first four months. What's more, you get discounts on car rentals.

3. Fido Mastercard

- The Fido Mastercard actually offers 1.5% on all purchases plus 2.5% on any purchases made in a foreign currency. So, you could make your foreign transaction fees back in cashback rewards. The Fido Mastercard also offers a $50 sign up bonus. The only problem with this card is that your cashback needs to be requested as a credit on your statement every year, otherwise your rewards go towards Rogers and Fido products and services.

4. Rogers Platinum MasterCard

- This car is very similar to the Fido Mastercard, except you get 4% cashback on foreign transactions. You're also given an extra .25% on regular purchases, making your total cashback in that category 1.75%. You get a $35 sign up bonus as well!

So, worry not Amazon Chase Visa Cardholders, there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Did you know, Refresh Financial also offers a credit card? The secured Visa credit card is a low annual fee, low interest credit card, secured by your own funds of $200-$10,000 that can be obtained with no credit checks - that's right, a no credit check credit card (or a "bad credit credit card!") - one of the best ways to rebuild credit.
