Save Money: How To Get Fit For Free

fitness

It’s still January so it’s not so long since you made all those New Year’s resolutions to get fit. Right about now, though, you might have missed a few days working out after realizing how costly joining a gym can be. You might be losing steam, letting go of your motivation because it is just costing way too much. You might feel deflated and discouraged and you might be ready to let go altogether just to save your cash. Don’t let money be the reason you don’t follow through, though. There are so many ways to get fit without money. Here are a few ideas for how to get fit for free:

Running

Everyone hates running until they do it (and even then, sometimes while they do it). Running is free, provided you have decent footwear, and it’s the perfect way to listen to all your favourite podcasts you don’t have time for anymore. Just open your front door and go.

Yoga

While yoga classes can get quite pricey, there are ample ways to get your yoga instruction for free and in the privacy of your own home. First, there are yoga television shows on many different cable channels. Second, there are yoga books you can take out of the library, and third (and, quite frankly, the best) is the internet! YouTube is full of professional yoga instructors giving full classes that you can just pop onto your computer screen or iPad and get to stretching. If you have a carpeted room, you don’t even need a yoga mat!

Hiking

Canada is a massive, rugged country full of trails to explore, perfect for beginners all the way to the most experienced hikers. There are so many positives to heading out for a hike. Not only can you get fit and pop in your earbuds to listen to your favourite tunes, but you can also take in the sheer beauty of the Canadian outdoors. There aren’t many places in our vast nation that don’t have a beautiful, natural trail nearby. Take advantage of it!

Walking

Scientists say that just 10,000 steps a day can change your health completely. You’ll have more energy, better sleep, and get in shape, too. Humans come with the equipment for walking built-in, so make use of it.

Playing with your kids

Any parents knows that kids are exhausting balls of neverending energy and making time to have active play with them for just thirty minutes a day can really do wonders for your fitness. Play tag or hide and seek. Maybe you could play a game of catch in the backyard if it’s not too cold. You can go for a bike ride with them, or head to a playground and get in there with them. There are so many active, fun things your kids would love to do with you. Just get up off that couch and do it.

Riding your bike to work

In just a few months, your bike will pay for itself in saved gas money and you’ll be fit as a fiddle!

These are just some of the ways you can keep your New Year’s resolution to get fit this year, and keep within your budget by getting fit for free. But if what you wanted was to get financially fit, you should check out Refresh Financial’s program called F.I.T.
